Time goes pretty fast

Oh~can't believe that~~~~we almost finish this bIg meeting~!
In the last 5 weeks, I really like the unit "Descrimination". I learnt a lot from this unit, for sure not only the English skills, but also makes us have a critical thinking!!!!!!!!!!

We won't feel strange and like have never heard about it, cuz descrimination happens everywhere and it's very common in the world.
For more reasons about why I like this unit, I have already written a lot in my blog" Should people judge a man from inside or outside"...............

I pretty like this idea that we express our opinions on the blog and command for each other.....it's like a discussion, just we are not face to face~but it's good to let each other know what u r doing and where u r, even though we can't see each other everyday..............and also we could say what we want at here, even some problems we meet. We can help each other, give some advice..........it's a good way to solve problems or express sth that u don't want to tell the people around u~! So....let us continue it!!!!!!!!Why not?!AH?

Does video game make u better when u feel angry?

Today, I read an article which named"physical interpersonal Relationships and social anxiety among online game players"(Lo, Wang, Fang, 2005). In this article, according to many experiments, experts have shown that people who are addictive on playing online games have less fullfilling interpersonal relationships than people who are nonplayer or only spend veryyy little time on it. Morover, those heavy players have higher levels of social anxiety than others who don't addictive on playing online games.

According to research, authors express that a significant percentage of teenageers who are the heavy users of online games have many serious social problems, such as they waste too much time on playing online games instead of attending school or scholl-related activities, some teenageers imitate the violent or destructive behaviours from the games.
many things can trigger people's social anxiety, such as losing job, losing house, losing friends.......some people think they can't solve these problems or they would rather to find another way than coping with problems, such us playing online games in order to aviod problems.

In the online games, people can do what they want, they don't need to have responsibilities as in the real world. However, authors explain that many personal factors which players create and desire to reach lose the meaning in the online games, such us socioeconomic status, physcial attractiveness, education level, social class.

In the future, researcher expect that they could more understanding the potential shifts in real -world interpersonal relationships and social anxiety with playing online games. Morover, they could find out the limit of playing online games which causes an increase in social anxiety.

suddenly, i got a headache........I don't the reason!!!!!!!!!maybe our building is bad ventilated!!! maybe the weather makes me sick!!!maybe i'm just too tried and need a rest..........

The life of inside

Now, I’m starting to read a text book named “psychology applied to Modern life”. My Major

in the university is about business, but I think I will have a long journey in the 4 years. To a large

extent, I would like to try to find what people think inside. Sometimes, I’m really enjoy in trying to

figure out the reasons or the causes of why people do something in their personal ways. So, I choose

the topic which is about psychology.

In this text book, the contents are very interesting and useful. It pointed out many common

questions people could have in their daily life. Doctors present their observations which can show the

causes or the correlation between the variables. Some points make me have a speculation, such as why

people are often in a conflict situation: people feel they don’t have enough time, but they spend most

of their leisure time on one of the technology inventions,television; more and more people are in the

middle or upper classes, they begin to consider luxuries, however, most people are not satisfied with their financial well-being; according to the development of our society, people have more choices which are available in the life, but over

choices can undermine their happiness and make them feel depress.

Another point also very interesting is the direction of people’s life. Many people have problems in their daily,

no matter which kind of problems. Most people think some problem that they can’t solve by themselves. Therefore,

they are trying to find something or someone to help them. For example, people who need some advice from a total

stranger would like to call Dr. Debbie on the radio, even though most of them are wasting their time. Because the

Dr. never give them a clear answer or he can lead them to a wrong direction. Moreover, sometimes her or his

advice can make them more confused. The question is why people keep calling; even most people know they won’t

get the answer from the Dr? The same thing happens on the SelfHelp books. Authors write the selfhelp books to

“help”people who have common problem in their daily life. They make a title which can attract people’s attention,

such as “To be happy”, “To be more popular”…..which can make people have many imaginations. Most people will

jump into the trap, because they care about their weight, looks, social status, and sex appeal. When they meet some

problems, they hope someone can tell them it’s not their fault. The book will make many promises that can convince

people buy it, if they want to solve their problems easily. The same question is why people keep buying those ridiculous self-help books, even though they know most of them don’t provide clarity in communication, and sufficient visual support,

and particular kind of problem.

Research paper

Ha……………..finally~~~~~I finished my presentation for my research paper on Friday~~~~~

Actully, I’m not feel very well on that day~ anyway~ I tried to do my best for it~!

Hehe~I have a problem on writing. If u ask me to explain sth, I prefer to do that by speaking,

not writing, because it’s hard for me to express or explain some ideas on writing. When I want

to explain one idea, the ways that what I speak and what I write is different. My writing makes

readers more confused. I think the reason why I can do sth better by speaking is I feel more relax

when I speak, however, I need to consider many detail on writing, such as grammar.

Another main reason is the logical ways of thinking is different between Chinese and English

writing and thinking. For example, in order to explain on thing clearly, we should say 3 steps to

explain that. In English writing, we should write 3 steps one by one, however, in Chinese writing,

we can write no.1 step and no.3 step to explain the idea. The reason why we skip the step 2 is

because we think reader can figure out it according to the step 1 and step3. However, I forgot

one of my English teacher says “you should remember that your reader are not smarter as you

think” so, I should explain all the steps for the readers with more organized structure.

Anyway, it’s a challenge for me~but like what Helen said “ A huge challenge,

but I can handle……” haha~~~~~~~

Well~~~~finally we finished the paper part of research project~I'm so glad that I finished the paper~but more important thing is I'm happy that I really learn sth from this project~

There are several skills I learnt in this project. Firstly, I learnt how to summary a long article to a short one or just few paragraphs. To begin with, I should make a plan for organization. I need to find the themes and main ideas. Moreover, when I write it in a short paper, I should use briefly words and sentences to support these main ideas.

Secondly, paraphrase is another skill I learnt here~ because no matter which topic we want to talk, we need many explanations and evidence which are found from different resources to support our mean ideas. Sometime, the ideas what I want to present are not mine. Therefore, I need to paraphrase authors' ideas from their books or articles. Furthermore, I need to show that these statements or theories from which authors, which website, which magazines, or which articles (references).........I learnt a lot about paraphrase in the class and from the book " To Be Honest"~~

Moreover, another skill which is also very important for our study, especially for some students who will attend a university is how to search the recourses in a library or using the library website. As we know, when we write sth on the paper, we should have a critical thinking. We should make sure what we write should be the truth. Therefore, where u find the recourses for supporting ur ideas is extremely important for doing a research project. Usually, the recourses from the library can convince people. To know how to find materials what u need in the library is the key to do the research. According to the explanations from the person who works in the Concordia university library, most of us have already handled this skill.

I also developed my writing skill in the paper part of research project. Based on the correction from lili and Adrianne, I know how to construct my sentences in different ways to explain ideas and how to let readers follow my themes in the paper.

For me, I'm satisfied with my paper; even there still have some problems. Maybe I will change another title which could more attractive. I think the content is fine, just the reasons for people keep doing " slow suicide" is hard to explain, because the reasons are similar with people who shoot themselves, slash their wrists, jump from the skyscrapers........ They don't have big differences.......However, if I cut this part, readers will feel this paper miss sth and not completed.

Well......anyway~I feel happy for the process of doing this paper~I eanjoy it~people could be happy for families getting together, people could be happy for enough food, people could be happy for learning~

Should people judge a man from outside or inside?

Oh~I'm so bad to post it after the day Adrinne asked for........cuz my damn laptop can't go to the internet with my cable~wired...right? I have no idea........

Well, let's talk about something interesting~Descrimination~!oh~it's a good word! Descrimination can be in the community, can be between man and animal, can be only for something no life. I don't think descrimination only exist in humans. Can u imagine if we don't have descrimination in the world? hehe....come on..it can't be!

For many people, when they think about the descrimination, the descrinimation in their own countries is the first thing they think. The descrimination between male and female, young people and old people, local people and th people from other places........

For me~~it's more possible to let me think about the situation which I have now for th descrimination. Now, I'm studing abroad in Montreal, Canada.....For canadian, i'm a foreigner,i'm the international student, i'm a Asia people. In my opinion, they have different treatments for people. I mean the reason is not only i'm Asia people or i'm international student who don't speak french.....the point is the descrimination exist in this city, in the country, even in this world~! I would say that even though there still have descrimination in people who are local people. However, it's really unconfortable to be treat differently..........sometime, it makes me mad, upset.....but i have no chose~What we could do is trying to have postive thinking~!

Have you even think about what factors can affect on the decrimination, especially to desciminate on others? In my opinion, everything can cause it, such as genter, age, or religious........should people judge a man from outside or inside? Most people know that the inside of a person is more important. A men might be very kind, but he is not handsome; A men might have knowledge, but he is not rich with pretty cloth; A men might have good skills or abilities, but he might not have a high postion in a company...........

When people want to judge a person only according to the different culture, the different genter, and the diferent education, they should be more reasonable and have a critical thinking. When people attempt to treat others differently, they should have walked in other's moccasins which means to change the postion and to feel what the people feel when they are treated differently.

my favorite unit

Wow......time reallyyy goes fast! We have already learnt so many units in this course......actully........it's we learnt many things with happiness with my friends!

From the first unit "Skyscrapers" to the mid-term "population", to be honest, i like all of them!

If i have only one chose that to chose the best one in the whole course, that's should be male&Female unit~!



First of all, the content is very rich and colorful~to begin with, they gave us some stories to point our men and women have different thinkings with different language levels. In this way, we have already interested on this topic and we wanted to know the reseaons why women are more like to express themselves than men..................in this unit, not only the reading gave us the information, but also a very ineresting video showed us much research which gave us more ideas about this topic..........



In terms to skills and language we learnt, based one what we understood, they learnt how to briefly retall the stories in the beginning of this unit. We practice our speaking skill, and improve

it very much~~~~~~



Moreover, taking notes is a pretty good way to help us to understand the information in the video. For me, my listening is my weakness~taking notes gave me more opportunities to help me developing me listening skills!



After watching the video, we had the short answer questions and the reaction writing on the blog~Accoriding to what we understood to answer the questions, we learnt how to oranginze the content that we understood and also we need to think about how to write or organize the part we were not very clear or really sure.Obviously, we improved our writing skills pretty much~!



To sum up, in this unit, not only the content is interesting , but also we improve our language skills, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing~!

public lecture

Well.......2 weeks ago ( I think~), I went to a public lecture with my friends Jarno, Wang and Zicas~The topic is the raising tuition fees in Quecbec~
actully, this topic is very convertreal......we should be critical thinking.......
but it's hard....cuz i'm a international student......i'm involved in this case.....To be a international student, I disagree the raising tuition fees. It's already very hard for our family to offer such a high tuition fees, however, if it keep raising......i promise that it's inevitable for international student who want to develpe themselve choose other developed country which don't need such a high tuition fees!
The lecture were presented by 4 people come from different areas, one is Concordia student, one is McGill student, one is a person who works in educaiton office and the last one is the president of Univeristy in Quecbec~!All of them presented their opinions after the chairman asked quesitons......it's a interview, not a debate like what they decribed on the paper......but they really gave us some ideas and let people have a critical thinking~!

Population

Haaha......our family is a big family as uausl in China......My Father' s parents have 5 children, three boys and two girls~My dad is the youngest~!and my mum's parents have four children, three girls and 1boy~my mum is the youngest either~i'm very happy that i'm the only one for my partent~but.....sometimes i hope i could have a brother who can protect me or have a sister who can chat with me.....especially, when mum angry with me, I hope someone could share with me~~~haha~~~~~welll......for me......I don't want to have child....cuz that's tooooooooo noisy........that drive me crazy!realllyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm very pleasure that my parents don't mind whether i have children. However, if I don't have choose......I would like to have 2 children if i have enough money for them~one boy and one girl~........

Well......I think the population of China is more stable than before....it's arround 1.3 billion~hehe~I hope I could have 1.3 billion dollar~haha~Unquestionaly, the large population influence on the quality of life in China. For living....people don't have engough space for living....the price of apartment is raising every year...It lead to many common people can't offerring such high house price.......For jobs....it's very competive...U can imgine that 1000 people apply for one job, and only 5 people could accepted.....it brings too much impact......China is full of people~!

For sure, people who live in rural areas want to move to urban areas.....it happens in every country~i think everything has adventages and disadvantages~the advantage of a significant popluation shifting in China is it could bring many different cultures. Moreover, it's also good for the socity's economy......however, overpopulation form rural areas to urban areas let the city should have more strong adminstration.....cuz..many people who from rural areas have less education....so the society need more funds for them to improve their education. I'm so glad that this problem has already controled by the government of China~!

Anyway....the disadvantages of overpopulation are more than the advantages.......the competiton of jobs.....the pollution of environment......the problem of living.......

Animal right~Nowadays,it's a very convertral discussion!
Now~it's our topic in the class..hehe...it's going interesting, cuz we read many articles by different people with different postions~~SOME people think human have the right to "own" animals! SOMEN people believe that animals should have the same right as human's and people should stop the animal researches!!!
ah~~it's really hard for me to chose which side I should be!really!cuz I love animals....i think sometimes it's unfair for those animals that were studies buy human researchers.However, to be a human being~I can understand the patients and their families....they want the researches could find the treatments for their dieases~!Morthers don't want to lose their children, sisters don't want to lose their brothers, young chridren don't want to lose their partents..........if u and me in this situation, what will u choose? ur familiy member's life or animal's? It's so hard..........

book review

we have already finished the book review project~!That's fantastic~!really~
I'm really interented in the presentation of the book review~that's more activite....actually every part of this project was pretty useful~! The interesting presentation should base on what we understand about the novel, the style of the author, the background.......that's to say, we should enjoy our reading frist....if we don't like or don't want to do sth at the begining, it's hard for us to succeed at the end.It's like what Lily said we should engjoy what are we doing and work hard~~~ (reading rate: 7)

we separated our novel with different sections and discussed with our group after finishing one section. We could get more ideas and explain some parts that make us confused for each other. Well....that's an useful prosess of learning with group work. (discusstion with group: 8)

oh~~~~~~~~the writing for book review was a little chellenge for me....even though I have alreagy got the ideas that how to write it...sometimes..it's easy to go a little bite far....the problem for me is giving a little bite much infomation that make the summarising of the novel not clear enough! I think if I made it shorter,it could be more clearly. (written review: 7)

Our novel named "Obasan", we thought we did a good job for the presentation.....there are many description and details in the story...so..it's hard to present..(it's same with other novels)...I thought we should gave more explaination about the relationships in this Japanese-Canadian family. During the question time, according the questions,we explained more information about the relationships and help audiences to understand this story. (presentation:9)

I love the presentation part, cuz we can express the author's ideas for audiences, we could present the stories by our styles at the same time~! Practicing our speaking skill make us more confident to speak in front of many audiences~!It's really good experience for us to study in the university, or even in the workplace.

Critical thinking

Critical thinking……I’m not usually thinking something critical…except studying…..I don’t know why I never really care about what happened in this world, it seems like it’s none of my business….even though I’m living in this world…..hehe…so..searching news on the internet is just for fun….just get some news and ideas…nothing more….Therefore, fore sure, I don’t think it’s real and serious enough for all the information. When I see something incredible, I would wonder and doubt the resources of them….and my command always is ‘oh…..maybe…yup….it’s could be…..”When I were in my country, I watch TV news and see newspaper every single day….I believe most of information over there are truth….however, I think we should be critical thinking…Cuz in this world, there was no thing never changes…..we should learn to doubt what we see, what we heard….learn to be reasonable…..

Gender Talk

We are tired today, but interesting~
This morning, we had a viedo lecture wich is about studies on the differences and ability of using language bewteen men and women.There were 3 studies with 3 couples.The experts devided them into 3 men and 3 women.

The first reaserch is experts asks all of them as fast as possible to read sentences wich have word spelling mistakes and correct mistakes right way. For men, few of them are not good enough to read fast with correcting mistakes. On the other hand, women well done for this test. They read fluently more information and they could quickly search vocabulary from their brain.

The second reaserch is experts want to know the differences of creating language bewteen men and women. Experts let them have a free talk. During the talking time, men have 10 topics and women only have 1 topic. The difference is women would like to focus on 1 topic and to deeply talking about it. After this reaserch, men explained that they can feel and see something , however, they feel hard to write their feeling down and speak out. Women said they like to talk about one thing deeply,because they could get the good information from each other and they could know each other as well.

Another study is about whether men or women could do many tasks at the same time. They let them ask questions with earphones to someone and experts will speak with the person who are asking questions. In this way, experts observed that men cann't speak when they listening , however, women can do it well. Therefore, experts observed that women have better ability of learning language than men.

Haha~~~~I'm soooo happy to hear that~actully I can feel very much in these reaserches from the daily life, such as when the men playing computer games, they won't answer any questions for others. I think it's not like they doesn't repect others, it's just like they can't do it. They can't think or respone many tasks at the time very well. So, pretty women ~!Don't angry with men when they do not response u~!Please forgave them~!

The New York Time---Sport

During this weekdays, I read The New York Time and I feel it's really different from other english reading what I read. It's more formal and international.....feel good~~
When I read it, I was attractived by a pic that was a Chinese girl who did one of figure skating's difficult positions. Her name is Caroline Zhang,14 years old and she was a top junior last year. She will compete at the senior level in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
The reporter showed that she has a very good essential training and skills.Zhang could pull her free foot toward her head in a Biellmann spin.She competed with many similar ages girls in many different competitions like junior nationals, the junior world championships and this season's junior Grand Prix final. Moreover, she achieved many good accomplishments, such as she earned bronze at Skate America in Reading, Pa and in December (2007), at the Grand Prix Final in Turin, Italy, she acquired the fourth. In this play, a old player who are 3ys older than Zhang were two places behind Zhang. Zhang let the old player feel nervous........Now, she is preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics and she said"I'm focuing on the podium, and skating two good programs."
I really respect someone who has proficiency in a particular line. Those people might focuse on different aereas, but they all have the common things. That is they all have the great personal qualities which should be required to be successful, such as they persevere unremittingly when they trainning hard; they have enough confident to overcome difficulties; they have the quility of psychology to face different situations when they have very strong pressures.........................
No matter what we do, we should have the same quilities to be successful.

In my opinion, the most important factor that affects proficiency in learning a second language is the confidence. To begain with, I think if a pearon without the confidence , he or she cann't do anything. For learning a second language, people should be able to speak with confident. Speaking with confident is the best way to improve their second language.Therefore, the ability of confidence for learning a second language is very important.
Morover, not only the confidence could affects the proficiency improvement of speaking in second language, but also it affects on the process of learing writing, reading and listening. For some people, they have confidence to make mistakes for the process of learning. Those people have more quickly progress than others who are lack of confidence.If people are afraid of making mistakes, they cannot make any progress.
In conclusion, in order to be a successful person in learning a second language, he or she should have the confidence to learn it.

The skyscrapers

This Monday we started a new unit which named is The Skyscrapers~~This is my frist time to learn sth and try to found new things about the skyscrapers~!

Nowadays, the skyscrapers are more common than before. We could find it everywhere, especialy some big cities like Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, New York.........
Do you know why people want to build the skyscrapers? Before I leart it, I just know the simple reason that everyone could know is saving space for the city.Actully, that is the truth, and also it's the main reason that why designers and engineers try to build them. For example, many big city don't have enough land for the growing population. The only way they could go is "up"~! Moreover, there are many other reasons for creating the sky city.
People think the skyscrapers could save the time for people's daily life. Tokyo is very big crowd city. Eventhough they have very good train station system, the city is too big to let people move fast.People have to spend a lot of time on transportation. They think if the could work and live in the skyscrapers, it's really good for them to save the time~!
Of course people have other reasons such as solve urban sprawl for the rapid growing population in big cities, save energy, improve the development of the economic in the cities.........
However, the designers and engineers of the skyscrapers have to face many problems, like how to prevent the damage of skyscreapers from the cases of fires, the earthquakes, and the powerful wind and so on........Eventhough we have high-technologies....designeers cann't 100% to fix all problem in the hurry......therefore, many people against to build the skyscrapers....

In my opinion, I think creating the skyscrapers is a good idea. It can let people have better life, save land, save time and so on. I think we could fix those problem with the new techonogies in the future.
